Measuring Iran's Internet Collapses
Iran's internet was dark, in some form, for most of 2026. Two near-total collapses — one in early January after nationwide protests and a second in late February after the start of the war — held reachability around 1% of pre-collapse levels for months. During the week of May 25, responsive IPs snapped back to ~92% of the pre-collapse peak, and daily TCP reachability jumped 4.6× on May 26 before ramping to near-full by June 1. The weekly census has held above 90% of peak every week since, through July 13.
The visualization below is built on ProbeNet, our internet measurement platform that runs a weekly ICMP census across global IP space. Filtering that census to addresses geolocated to Iran, week by week and ASN by ASN, is what produces the view you see here.
